Kelly Thompson, Girl Scouts of Eastern Washington and North Idaho

As the Product Sales Manager at Girl Scouts, Kelly has two focuses; the Fall Sale Program and, of course, Girl Scout Cookies!

Girl Scouts focuses on 5 basic skills: 1) Goal setting, 2) Decision Making, 3) Money Management, 4) People Skills and 5) Business Ethics. "Our Sales programs are great, because I truly believe girls paired with the right leader learn so much," says Kelly. "I enjoy the Girl Scouts position for the variety and flexibility that it offers.  The program repeats annually, so it is not easy to get bored, as the focus of tasks changes every 2-4 weeks."

Still after 5 years in the same position Kelly knows what to expect, "I brought sales up and now I need something more, something new." She went searching for a way to give back to her community and at Pride weekend visited the INBA booth.

Enticed by the "business connection" that the INBA provided, Kelly said, "It was something I felt comfortable looking into. As my work situation has changed this year with more responsibilities, I am presently working with the INBA, finding a place where I can offer a hand, that meets my skills and where I can offer value to the organization."

Kelly Thompson grew up in Glacier National Park, working for her parents at the Glacier Highland Resort. For anyone familiar with working in a family business, you know that family members get to fill in for just about every job. So at the age of 14, Kelly started out washing dishes and worked her way up every summer. Even after her parents sold the business, Kelly continued work under the new owners. She then went to college at 25 to learn the name of everything that she had been doing.

With her BA in Business Kelly moved to the "big city" of Spokane in October of 2000 with her nearly 2 year old daughter. Initially, Kelly worked in property management, then in information technology. About 5 years ago, Kelly realized that the analyst track she was on did not interest her. So she soon found herself at Girl Scouts of Eastern Washington and North Idaho, where she continues to work today.
